He's a beautiful little fellow. So is his sire, who's just bein' a gorilla, OK? Let him have his canteloupe without making superior human judgements on it. (Why yes, that IS Oscar Jonesy in the icon.)
However, all I could think of as I read on was my encounter with a Proud Young Af'ican American co-worker who introduced himself, explained what the meaning of his first and last Af'ican names were and then said, "because white names have no meaning." I recall looking him straight in the eye (and wondering if I was going to regret what I was about to say), and said something along the lines of, "That isn't true, you know. My name derives from Elizabeth, which is Hebrew and means 'gift from God.'" (Depending on where you look it up, it can be that or "God's abundance" or even "God's oath" or "consecrated to God.")

So my name roughly translates to Song to the Moon Goddess! I rather like that idea.

My daughter's names, too, have meanings. Their names were absolutely deliberately chosen with the meanings in mind, as well as the name origins.
