Hump day thoughts and a second test batch

Russ' memorial service info was finally sent out this morning. Saturday, 1 PM, San Mateo. I'll go, but I'm not going to stick around for the reception. I just worked with the man, I don't know his family and they've been dealing with enough for the past month and a half without being besieged by strangers.
Spent two hours in a meeting today being introduced to our company's new Employee Stock Ownership Program. We get shares, their value goes towards an installment cash payout at retirement, yadayada. It's cool, only the guy from the financial services company seriously needs to be weaned off the Starbucks and have the slideshow remote surgically excised from his hand. I do hope he picked up all the damn Monopoly money he insisted on throwing around the training center, 'cause I do not want to go up there tomorrow morning and have to do it.
Decided on a whim to take the new camera across the channel and shot some pictures over around Jack London Square. http://www.flickr.com/photos/70104978@N00/sets/72157615910648234/

This shot was complete dumb luck. I could not see a thing on the LED. When I was aboard the Lady Washington, a fellow passenger had this neat little accordion hood that attached to the back of his camera with velcro. I definitely need to find something like that. Edit: FOUND!

And bigger memory cards. And a spare battery. Unless I'm in for a rude surprise tomorrow evening when I try some museum shooting, I don't think it's getting sent back for a refund.

Date: 2009-03-26 09:32 pm (UTC)As my eyes age, I've had a lot of trouble gauging results on the LCD on the old 3800. This one is a bit bigger and clearer. While I traditionally prefer a viewfinder to LCD, I did find that composition shots felt a bit easier to visualize. I think the addition of a screen hood to cope with glare will make me even happier.
The fountain one was one of those, "OK, let's see what the camera will do with it," moments. Frankly, I was dazzled with the results.

Date: 2009-03-26 04:21 pm (UTC)I have an older FujiPix (I don't remember the model), and we recently got a slim Cannon because the FujiPix wasn't any good with indoor shots. I'm rather sad about that because many of the indoor shots we got on our trip to England last year were way to blurry for any good use. Furnature! Period furnature! and I got very few decent shots.... :(
