Jinglies and sparklies

Prompted by a post by moira_ramsay. Also prompted by being called into court as part of the Estrella Poetry Project to receive the Queen's Treasure.

The Eastern Duke who attended Beltane for Michael of Castle Keep's induction into the Order of the Western White Scarf was the king who awarded me arms. Lucan and Caitlyn, AS 32. Lucan was on the throne with Elspeth when I tanked at my debut performance at King's and Queen's Bardic Champions - and with Marieke when I made the finals at the same event three years later.

I was surprised and touched when I rounded a corner on Merchant's Row at my first Estrella and the Eastern Duke who made me a member of the Order of the Troubadour leaped out of his chair to greet me. I hadn't thought he'd remember who I was, but he did. Now when I see him at Estrella, he insists I play for him and he always, ALWAYS asks if there is anything he can do for me. I met them for the first time two days after arriving in the West and watched them step up as Prince and Princess of Cynagua. Barely four months later, they  presented me with a Rose Leaf. Thatched birdhouse notwithstanding, it was no joke. Gemini and Mari, AS 37.

I can't forget the way Dmitry said, as only Dmitry could say, "She plays the hurdy gurdy - which is period." Or the grin on Jimena's face. Dmitry and Jimena, Corolla Vitea,  AS 38.

I've never been in the game for the jinglies, but this is my lineage. For whatever it's worth.

You didn't tank at that Bardic Championship (also my first). You made a mistake in material (which I wish you'd stop beating yourself up about), but presented it well.

If you're thinking of the one in Caer Adamant, that was my second. The year before in An Dubighean was my first. I discovered that it's REALLY hard to play a wind instrument when one cannot breath and one's hands are shaking. People came up to me all day for the rest of the day to ask me if I was all right.

You're completely right -- The one in Caer Adamant was Lucan and Caitlin (who was absent, so I tend to forget), not Lucan and Elspeth. So, I have no idea if you tanked or not. : ) I know you tend to be really hard on yourself.
