It is gratifying when the lurkers finally DO introduce themselves, if only because blanks get filled in and one can relax and realize, "Oh yes, I have interacted with you before and you weren't a complete psycho in that context. Tea?"  or "No, we haven't met, but hi anyway. Tea?"

Then there is the person who decided to startle me first thing this morning. This party  never even "friended" me LJ-style, just posted a comment in my journal out of nowhere. When I moused over the name and took a look at the profile, I noted the following: we have no mutual friends, one possible mutual interest, and this person's journal is (big freaking surprise!) - locked. Instead of choosing to make an introduction, this party instead deleted the comment from my journal. I cannot speculate as to whether or not that locked journal now contains a diatribe about what a Big Meanie I am. The Big Meanie thing is, after all, right there in my profile for all comers to read and heed.

Yep. I'm old school. When I was a kid, I was expected to acknowledge every birthday card with a thank you note and write get well wishes to Hubert Humphrey when he had some kind of surgery I can't even remember. It doesn't occur to me to troll LJ in search of people with similar interests and barge into their journals. If I do run into someone that I'm interested in greater contact with, I do message them.

Bestbuy is no longer offering that PC package I saw last week. Wondering if it's worth trying to hold out until sales for July 4th start being advertised. I can get away without replacing the monitor right away, but a new printer would be a good thing.  Fry's is selling some refurbished desktops at discounted prices that might be worth investigating....

Of course, I can't find which message it was in, but [livejournal.com profile] kproche  said something about me joining him and [livejournal.com profile] bovil  at a rodeo up Sacramento way this weekend. I did horse shows for years, but I've never been to a rodeo.  The event hotel still has rooms, but it's more than I want to spend. However, Hotwire has some rooms listed at another motel in the same neighborhood that are pretty reasonable, so that's an option if I decide I want to stay overnight on Saturday evening.

If you don't need a monitor, we bought a desktop at BB for the kids for a grand total of $299 that didn't include monitor or printer.

It's got a bigger harddrive than our computer, but our computer has the flat panel monitor. (I will never buy any other kind of monitor again, I love this thing.)
