Merciless shears clack,
Lopping helpless branches off
In verdant carnage.
Had I such gardeners, it
Would be they who would suffer.

(The so-called landscape "design" firm our company uses are butchers. What they do is not pruning.)

Sounds like the same mindset as the "giant pencil sharpener" school of Christmas tree shaping. Living trees don't deserve that.

The "gardeners" my landlady hires do that - there used to be a lovely shrub that bloomed with pretty purple flowers, and every time it bloomed they hacked it into an ugly box shape, effectively removing all blossoms.
