I didn't go see Seven Samurai on Sunday because nobody wanted to go with me - and I got embroiled in watching people flying down hills with boards strapped to their feet. However, when I posted the film festival information on the SCA-JML, someone commented, "That's only ten minutes away from me."

Really? He's on an SCA mailing list in my neck of the woods and this is the first time he mentions this? After how many years? Then again, he never signs posts except with a modern name so who knows if he even plays.

So I emailed him, as he's always seemed to be a fairly intelligent and civilized contributor to the e-list  and asked if he'd be interested in trying to meet up and go see one of these fabulous movies together. He appears amenable. We'll shoot for a meet up Friday evening for Seven Samurai.

Is this a blind date? Oy. I hadn't planned it that way. I want to go see some of these movies on a big screen and going to the movies alone isn't much fun.

Caught Frost-Nixon on cable yesterday after work. Wow. Michael Sheen and Frank Langella are terrific. More compelling than I expected - and I expected it to be compelling.

Finally kinda sorta got into watching the Olympics a bit. I like watching ski racing anyway, and the new ski cross is insanity. It's like short track speed skating off a cliff. The ski racing thing goes back to my childhood. I remember us watching Jean Claude Killy at Grenoble on our dinky black and white TV - my youngest sister, four at the time, even made up a song about him.....  Probably because his name was just so much fun to say.

Frost/Nixon is on my list of DVDs to borrow from the library.

The Ski Cross is a lot of fun to watch, but will never replace cross-country skiing in my heart. But I keep get hooked up into the figure skating. Pretty costumes!!! Be still, my yet-girlish heart! ;-D

7 samurai on the big screen? 35M or DVD/BluRay display? If it was 35MM I would have shit my pants!

The theater listing doesn't say what format the films are being shown in.

shitknuckle! do you have any idea how rad some of the old samurai flicks are in pristine 35MM? It's a pure treasure of cinema, especially Kurosawa flicks!
