1. Looks like J and I are go for Seven Samurai on Friday evening. He emailed me with a photo so I'd know who to look for. I lust after his palatially equipped wood shop, where said photo was taken.

2. Never been queen, not queen now, not likely to be queen ever. Nobody since Gaius has been that crazy and he was good for two or three fight practices and a heartfelt, "I'm too old for this shit."  So you can relax. The West is safe. Mostly.

3. 50+ does not mean dead, nor does my current dress size, but you wouldn't know it by what is in the stores. If you're a size 8 or smaller, you're in like Flynn. "Activewear" is in a photo finish with the dress department for awfulness.  A woman with a womanly figure is clearly never going to actually exercise, much less where someone might see her. She is obviously supposed to live out her life in 3X men's black tee shirts and sweats while she cries into her pint of ice cream and loads on another five pounds.  God forbid one wants something with a little flippin' COLOR.

This was brought about by an impulse to look for something fun to wear at an upcoming do I was invited to (not the movie in #1) - and use up what's left of my Christmas gift card well before the bank starts assessing fees against it. I decided to widen my search at the Talbot's outlet in San Leandro on my lunch break. I kept finding things I liked in sizes I cannot wear. Suddenly, as I struggled through a sea of black knit, ugly dresses, I saw something that looked like - shibori? OK, it's printed on jersey, but it's a shibori pattern all right, in classic indigo and white, sort of like this. And the only one was a 12 Misses.

Only it looked fairly generous for a 12, though I remained skeptical because it's one of those maxi things that became popular last year. I shrugged and took it to the fitting room. It not only fit, I kind of went, "Holy Cow" because for once I was wearing a bra that worked with said dress and the effect was rather, well, holy cow. So was the price after all the markdowns, so I sprang for it.  I can dress it up or down. It's cute, it's fun, it's not black. Or matronly.

4. Lent Project: $14.00 towards the food bank donation to date and 3 pounds lost. The fast days really aren't bad. I can have all the water and tea I like between sunrise and sundown and a big slug of H20 derails the urge to give in and eat. My so-called hunger pangs are nothing to what people who are truly hungry have to deal with.

5. Taiko resumes next Tuesday. I've missed it. I fully expect the first session to kick my ass after the long sabbatical while the O Club got a new ceiling.

Gosh who WOULDN'T want to be Queen, with squeeing fangirls who forget your name the moment you pass the hat?

I think it'd be fun. How much money could the West wrangle to have me fly out for events? Or would they make me 'phone in' my reign? There's never been a non-mainland Queen or King yet. Shaking up the status quo would be fun...or is that my perverseness speaking again? ...yes it is.

Dah-ling, you'd be FAB. And you could make the trads flinch by holding Heian court with lots of Asian flair!

Wrong. We had a queen who had expired papers and when she attempted to come back into the country was informed that no, you cannot do that. (Being as at that point you're essentially an illegal alien.) Spent her reign in Australia. Technically within in West at that time but definitely not "the mainland."

That's a gorgeous pattern--the dress sounds faboo!

I've usually had good luck finding things that work for me at Talbot's (full-price, they're too spendy for me, but we have an Outlet nearby).

Doulbe check because I'm not 100% on the bank cards but on most gift cards that have a "start losing money after X amount of time" clause it doesn't apply in CA. They also don't expire. Bank cards could have different rules, but it's worth looking in to.
