1. Way to co-opt a Saint's Day. Last week the email went out because someone thought we should do a potluck. I remember when the email went out last week and people started saying, "I'm bringing Spaghetti!" "I'll bring an Irish Dessert!" I wrote "I'll be starved out by the potato blight and be emigrating to Amerikay." And nobody got it.
Did you know "Irish dessert" consists of cupcakes with terrifyingly purple icing? And chocolate chip cookies? And what's with the spaghetti? And the tamale thing? Oh, right. I'm the only contributor to said potluck who is actually of Irish descent. I inflicted the Guinness stew upon them. Th carrots had clearly absorbed way too much stout, but the meat was still pretty good. A goodly portion of it did get eaten though.
2. Taiko was intense last night. Did some form practice on "Matsuri," then more o-daiko exercises. My left arm is still extremely confused when we play side-on to the o-daiko, particularly in reverse stance with left-hand-lead, but somewhat less so than last week. We were leaving the building and Amy (one of the class members more junior than I am) told me she likes to stand behind me because I have such beautiful form. Buwhaaaaa???? Um, no, thanks, that's very kind, but SEAN has beautiful form. I'm too busy thinking to hard to have beautiful form.
3. Horribly, horribly unfair of TCM to air "Red Beard" at 10:15 PDT last night. I'd never seen it and it's not part of the film festival at Stanford. I managed to watch about an hour of it before reluctantly going to bed. I'm going to have to rent the sucker.....
4. I have been instructed to prepare myself. My nephew's birthday party will involved disco bowling, whatever that is.
5. Said nephew's jacket is coming along in stages - it's hard handsewing on heavy twill. The body is assembled, the stand-up collar is on, the epaulets are on and I've got about 1/2 of the piping edging on it. I'm not pleased with the sleeves though. The original jacket had two piece sleeves, and I did those for my ECW jackets, I just can't seem to scale them down quite right. If I can't get it worked out this weekend, I'm going back to Hellmart for a bit more twill and I'll just recut them as one-piece sleeves. I should be able to get the piping finished, then buttons and the dreaded buttonholes.
