Huge explosion over in San Bruno this evening, they think it may have been a natural gasline leak.

Yeah, started at 6:15 PM, was a natural gas explosion.

I had noticed an unusually colorful sunset...

Preempted all local TV on all local broadcast network stations (FOX2, CBS5, ABC7, NBC11, the CW44) until 11 or 11:30 PM.

When local news ended last night around 11:30, the stats were 53 homes destroyed, over 120 damaged, 3 dead, over 20 seriously burned, and there were still serious hot spots. But data was not complete.
