Woke up, had some cereal, worked on one of JAF's kosode with 1920s Radio running off my laptop. Broke for lunch and watched a Babylon 5 episode, then watched it again with cast commentary because it's been years since I've seen any of these and you can't even hear dialogue with commentary going on. Ran up the last kosode after. All the bodies are done, I just need to attach collars.

I'm rather miffed that my knee is still not quite right. Despite the chilly temps, the sun is shining and it would've been a nice day to take the bike out. We'll see how it feels tomorrow.

Family "conference" call was achieved. All are well, I could hear the seven year old bellowing "Highway To Hell" in the background. Evidently that is his new favorite song. Nick turns eleven tomorrow, which I'm kind of boggling at. My sister Elaine is toying with the idea of coming out to see me for a long weekend at the end of December. Mom sounds happy in her new house. "I don't worry about the weather now," she told me. The old place was closer to the bay in an area that didn't have city sewers or water and she was always worried about flooding and power losses back there. The 55+ community she's in now has more reliable utilities, plus she's taking swim classes at the clubhouse and such. Dad was raving about an audiobook he listened to on the drive down from NJ, something called Wolf Hall about Henry VIII. (Anybody out there read this one?) In short, they're all well.

My dinner was consumed while seated on the living room floor next to the coffee table, my other table being upstairs with a heavy sewing machine parked on top of it. Turkey "tenderloins" are a stupid name for a boneless, skinless turkey breast. Loins are a completely different anatomical bit. No skin or enough drippings to produce proper gravy. I sliced up a Granny Smith Apple and some onions and poured a little Strongbow cider over it before it went in the oven. Easy and very moist. String beans - NOT in a vile cream of mushroom soup bath with onion rings on top, steamed,  with salt and real butter. A Yukon gold potato, boiled, again with salt and butter, which, when you don't keep potatoes in the house any more, is a decadent luxury.  It was consumed while seated upon the living room floor, my other table being on the third floor with a sewing machine parked on top of it. I never saw the point of stuffing, couldn't rationalize making cranberry orange relish with me being the only one to eat the stuff, but it was plenty of food.

The token Safeway pumpkin pie was a case of good filling and lousy crust. The Barefoot Bubbly Muscato Spumante, however, was better than anything with such a silly name ought to be, fruity and sweet without being too much so.

All in all, a relaxing day.

i realize this is quite late... i don't read LJ (not YOU, i mean the website) very often.

If you are alone between Halloween and New Year's and craving pumpkin pie, may i recommend picking up a slice or two at Crixa in Berkeley on Adeline.

The crust is not the usual short crust, but still excellent, as they only use REAL ingredients, and the filling is divine. One slice is really big enough for two servings. (they also have freshly made REAL whipped cream... and she candies her own fruit, when she needs candied fruit... none of that nasty plasticy unreal colored junk)
