1. Is it me, or is this article from today's Chronicle completely lame? (Oh and my photos from yesterday are ten times better at describing taiko than the obviously posed shots in the article's slide show. Just ask the lady from E'ville Taiko who I just burned a CD for so they can use some of them.)

2. Sorry, no, I don't see what a Rockabilly/Pinup themed meet-up i has to do with re-creating the Middle Ages. Oh, that's right, not a damn thing. If I want to go to a con (and now I can say I've actually BEEN to one or two), I'll go to a con, thank you. That's not what I go to SCA events for. Voting with feet and wallet not to spend two nights on a hotel room or $79 for a meal plan, not that it'll have any effect on Kingdom Tradition. How do you think I pay for the silk, bebeh?

3. Is Rising Sun setting? Our usual land agent is lamentably between jobs and will probably only be camping Thursday-Sunday. His lady is wrangling a toddler and will probably be day tripping from Phoenix, weather willing and the mud don't rise. The Atenveldt household we usually prevail upon for part of a combined camp isn't camping this year. [livejournal.com profile] purplepenguin is contacting one of the Outlanders of our contingent to see if he has room for us somewhere. If we don't hear from him before the week's out, I'm going to get a head-count and go to the West Kingdom and beg us a corner someplace. And get my pre-reg in. And get in touch with the A&S folks and see if I can offer them a class or two this late in the game. Life happens, money's tight, but I don't want to see Rising Sun fall by the wayside. It's too much fun.  Worst case scenario, folks camp where they can (I camp with the West) and the House of Cheerful Monkeys throws the New Year party on Thursday night of the war.

#2 - WTF, indeed.

Disapproving Turk is VERY disapproving.

As to #2 - To be perfectly honest, it has absolutely nothing to do with the Middle Ages. It also has absolutely nothing to do with the SCA. Wasn't meant to have anything to do with either.
I'm not attending the SCA event, though I'll be staying at the same hotel where/when it's happening - I haven't seen many of my friends much over the past year, and this will be a good chance to catch many of them (in the periods of time they're not doing something that I no longer find appealing).

And I think it's a lovely idea. We miss you. Either Bobert or I, both if we can swing it, will drop by to say hi at some point.

Yeah, that article is total fluff - actually it looks like that column is total fluff. I wouldn't sweat it, it's probably got more attention than it deserves already.

P.S. Have you seen this? http://onensemble.org/2008/12/30-days-to-better-shime/ It's late to get into the user group but it will probably repeat and the materials are there.
