Managed to locate Baron Vail over in Facebook land, shot him a thank  you note and received a reply this AM indicating that the Children's Day items were an antique shop find and assured me that they were not expensive.

Still - it's a pretty darn amazing haul and he had to get it here!

And so, back to work.

It's amazing what will show up in antique stores and thrift shops. I once found a beautiful lacquered shrine, (the kind used for certain kinds of Japanese Buddhism) about 4+ feet tall, at a Salvation Army for $125. At the time, they were retailing in the $4000-7500 range. I split the cost with a friend and gave to another friend who practiced that kind of Buddhism.
