I
killed my favorite paintbrush. It was freaking PERFECT for the flower petals and I could tell when I started work this afternoon that it was starting to get scrunchy. I did get flowers applied on the left front body and overlap panels of the kosode tonight, but I'm going to have to run out to Michael's at lunch tomorrow for another brush.
EDIT - update 7/24/07. No, just stunned it. The Michael's near work did not have the same brush, so I bought a couple of other nylon bristle brushes, which were a different shape. As soon as I tried to use the one of the new ones, I knew it wasn't going to give me the same result, so I dug out the old one from the jar it had been soaking in, gave it a good twist with a paper towel and went back to work with it. Sleeves still need flowers, then I can start in on the leaves.

Dad called last night. As is typical, he gave me the wrong dates for the Dickens Universe. I thought I wasn't going to get to see him this year because of Pennsic, but he's actually flying out this weekend, so I'm going to head down to Santa Cruz and meet him for dinner Sunday evening. Here's hoping he actually remembers to BRING his cell phone this time.
I've never been one of those annoying people who starts counting down towards Pennsic months early, but I confess I am just the teensiest bit stoked right about now.
(A) I will get to hang out with friends I haven't seen in five years - though there is that big, weird hole in the 'verse that Ragnar the Wolf left with his passing - I shall content myself with the knowledge that he's hitting on Valkyries and drinking The Good Stuff in That Big Meadhall In The Sky.
(B) I will get to hang out with friends I've only ever met electronically.
(C) I will get to hang out with friends I only ever see at events outside the West.
(D) This will be my first Pennsic doing Japanese. Pennsic 28, the last one I attended, was the one where Fujimaki decided he was going to be a Good Squire and look after
vsct_caius' lady, namely me. It was his first Pennsic doing Japanese. As his knight's lady, it was my duty to take enough of an interest that I could hold up my end of the conversation. The circle has turned. His inspiration is one of the big reasons I'm doing Japanese now, even though he doesn't play in the SCA anymore.
(E) I will get to take classes on stuff nobody in this kingdom is teaching. Not for nothing, but I looked at the schedule for A&S this weekend. I still feel justified in offering to blow off any class I might be mildly interested in to help someone else sew, though the likelihood of anyone actually taking me up on my offer seems pretty slight, this being The Eurocentric West and all. Since my camping gear is leaving the state in a matter of hours, I can't overnight the event anyway unless I want to sleep in my truck.
