I did that one a while back...my matches ended up being male, too--a couple of Filipino pop singers and some Chinese actor! I think it is based on face shape, the way your hair is parted and the direction your face is pointing at the time?

Lighting also affects it in unflattering ways. I don't remember who my picture matched with, but it was pretty odd. If you don't select a photo carefully, you usually wind up with some bizarre matches.

You most assuredly do not resemble Ed Schevardnadze, Makiwara-dono. Though if you are in a black mood, and inclined to kick yourself when down, this particular LJ-toy is a good one to cause depression in nearly anyone. Ignore it.
