So, I'm bookmarking art to show at my class on Saturday in my copy of Yoshitomo Okamoto's The Namban Art of Japan, when I see this 16th c. Japanese painting in European style depicting St. Peter.....

StMiles

Miles liked it so much he's using it on his FB profile.

Do a search on "Viking apron dress." There is some debate as to whether or not it is an accurate reconstruction of Norse grave finds, but something comes into fashion in the SCA and it gets imitated.

The resemblance is striking :-) but what really struck me was the painting itself: it "reads" as if the artist was influenced both by El Greco paintings and Byzantine icons....

I know other people who have historical/painting "doubles" and it's great fun. Mine is one of Queen Victoria's bridesmaids.
