Back at the beginning of February, you may recall I decided to try a new shampoo.

It's been a month. I think Pantene's 90% less breakage claim is a crock. Breakage is down, but not anywhere near that much.

Maybe this stuff was formulated for people who wash their hair daily and blow dry the crap out of it, curling irons, crimpers, straighteners and other heating appliances optional. For an every other day user who does not blow dry, I might as well use Elmers. Seriously. My hair feels tacky by the end of day one, greasy by the end of day two - and yes, I am using the traditional dime-sized squirt of both the 'poo and conditioner. I started alternating with Suave for color treated hair. On Suave days, my hair looks and feels fine. On Pantene days, I look like freaking Wormtongue.

It's time to reduce the Pantene to once a week and see what happens....

Pantene's big ingredient to create the lustrious shine is an oil. You are correct, it is for women that torment their hair on a daily basis with the various heated devices of destruction and beauty. I'm telling you, go spend the extra money on salon shampoo for color treated hair. I think my stuff is called cloud 9? I can tell you for sure tomorrow. I have been using this stuff for almost a year and it works great! :)

Found that brand by Googling it, thank you.

Your type of hair is apparently not the target demographic for that brand. All the commercials are rubbish. Find one that works for you and stick with it.

Shampoo and conditioner are one of the few things that I'm willing to spend real money on, because the professional products really do make a difference. It sounds to me lke you have fairly fine hair, in which case the stuff I use would be like axle grease in your hair. Find a stylist you respect, who understands long hair, and get a recommendation. I know that $15 and up for a bottle is insane, but given the amount used and the real difference in results, I think it's worth it.

2 cents from one of those long-haired weirdos. :-)

Actually, my hair is very thick, and almost coarse.

I agree completely. Shampoo is one of the places to not skimp when wearing your hair long. Personally I tended toward an inexpensive shampoo and a high price conditioner, but GM and I have completely different hair. I have many, many hairs but they are all baby fine.
