Saturday I got the western end of the garret looking considerably less like a bomb site. I also cut up the rust and navy striped silk blend and made a good dent in sewing it into a kosode.

So, when [personal profile] kproche and [personal profile] bovil said they were going wine tasting on Sunday, I said, "Sure, why not?"
Especially since I have been living in California since 2002 and have never gone to a single winery. Ever.

For the non-Californians reading this, it wasn't Napa or Sonoma. We were out in Livermore. Who knew?  Livermore was previously somewhere I had to drive through on the way to I-5.

I met the guys at Bent Creek.  We were relatively early and outnumbered the ladies working in the tasting room. I discovered that the pattern for the day would be that the guys were members at all the places we stopped, knew the folks working there and that I had managed to go wine-tasting in a pretension-free zone.

From there, we went to Cedar Mountain, La Rochelle and Steven Kent (both on the same property), and finshed our day at Thomas Coyne.

I came home with four bottles of table wine (Bent Creek Red Zinfandel, two bottles of Cedar Mountain's Rose of Pinot and the Thomas Coyne Malbec), two dessert wines (Bent Creek Vintage Port, Thomas Coyne Late Harvest Viognier), a wine chocolate sauce (La Rochelle) a bottle of olive oil (Cedar Mountain) and a package of fig and olive tapenade (La Rochelle).

By oenophile standards, this is pretty modest. By mine, this is a haul of mammoth proportions. How did this happen?

Maybe it was because I went along with Two Very Bad Influences. Maybe it's because the folks at the wineries we visited were really nice people who love what they do, make some really nice stuff and aren't snooty about it. I didn't have to know anything about wine, I just had to know what I liked.

On a separate note, K&A say it's likely that they may day-trip A&S. I was also planning to day-trip with [profile] gcmadtown81. I'm thinking that the House of Cheerful Monkeys needs to prepare for some merrymaking under the pines.....
