The Rules: Post info about ONE Supreme Court decision, modern or historic, to your lj. (Any decision, as long as it's not Roe v. Wade.) For those who see this on your f-list, take the meme to your OWN lj to spread the fun."

Or not. Can YOU name a Supreme Court decision other than Roe v. Wade without looking it up? Before coffee?

Dedicated to the far more threatening attempt of the Who Cares If It's Actually Period, Let's All Sing Steeleye Span faction on SCA_Bards to take over the Known World,  I give you Campbell v. Acuff-Rose Music (92-1292), 510 U.S. 569 (1994).

Brown v. Board of Education (of Topeka, Kansas) from 1954. That's THE school desegregation case.

I came up with three decisions, although I did have to google the name of the defendants in the third:
Brown v. Board--school desegregation
PL94-142--educational rights for the handicapped
Lau v. Nichols--bilingual education.

but then, I'm a bilingual speech/language pathologist

Point taken--but as it happens, the first case I named (Ex Parte Endo) was one that I actually remembered from my high school Government class (without coffee, because I don't drink the stuff :-D). (I did, however, have a "D'Oh!" moment when reminded of Bush v. Gore--how could I have forgotten that?) Whatever the original motive of this meme may have been, I've been enjoying the snippets of legal history in the responses :-)

Oh, and I'm feelin yer pain wrt the Steeleye Span thing--although I don't hear as much of them as I did in the early-mid 80s. An unexpected frustration for me is that I wish I could find *something* period that could occupy the same niche as their "Calling-On Song": it would be a nice opener for a demo set....

Absolutely.

Loving v. Virginia, 1967. (The interracial marriage thing.)
