Taking stock
May. 24th, 2007 09:04 pmI see by the by the calendar that it has been a year and two weeks since I decided to set down my fork and step away from the table.
I took off thirty pounds last summer. I've kept all of it off, although efforts to move off that plateau and shave off a bit more ballast have not yet been successful.
I have continued to walk two miles a day five days a week whether I feel like it or not. I mostly feel like it.
I eat what I like, I just don't eat stupidly any more.
If I get hit by a bus tomorrow, the donor card I signed might actually furnish someone in desperate need with a viable heart instead of a useless hunk of meat. Or kidneys, or whatever.
If I last longer than that, I have a decent shot at not following the family tradition of getting diabetes. Or stroke. Or heart problems.
I will not be driving all the way to Quincy this weekend, I am saving the gas money for my Pennsic fund. Instead, I will say goodbye to The Fat Clothes and clean out my closet.

Date: 2007-05-25 02:11 pm (UTC)We've been walking morning and night most days, probably averaging five days a week. Some days we walk a long path, some days shorter, some days we hustle, some days we just stroll. But we've noticed more energy although not any weight loss yet. Thanks for the encouragement in this!
Go you!

Date: 2007-05-25 10:39 pm (UTC)In a strange twist of fate, pregnancy seems to have the opposite effect on me than 'normal' - my heaviest weight was at my first OB visit with Bean (now 3.5). After his birth, I was down about 30 lbs from that high point, and kept off that weight. With Aurora, I was again the heaviest at the beginning of her pregnancy, and lost about 20 lbs total after her birth. Now I've put back on maybe 5 lbs from that, but I'm still down, and hope to stay that way. Heheh - one more child, and I should be at my 'ideal' weight, grin.
Cleaning out the Fat Clothes is a good thing :) In packing up the house to move, I started 4 stacks for clothes: the keep pile, the donate to SCA pile, the donate to Charity pile, and the Trash pile. For awhile, all 4 piles were about the same size, which I thought was an interesting sign of what we have been keeping. Clothes with holes aren't really useful, and any clothes designated 'messy clothes' - well, they got that designation after being involved with things like paint and tar, and never got used for that purpose again. In the process, I also got rid of stacks of socks, underwear, and other lingerie that fit into: old, holey, and/or 'will never fit into w/o major reduction surgery' categories, too. It's a very liberating experience, and is a great way to take stock of what you have/need/really use.
