This is what comes of attempting to write something in a language that needs three writing systems! I have just been informed that the kanji I used translate to "Origin of the sun" (Japan).日本
"Rising Sun" (Asahi) uses a single kanji that looks like this. 旭  And yes, there is a beer called "Asahi."

Hmmm ... that may be hard to cover, although at least you can always black it out.

Heh - unless you wanted to come up with some VERY convoluted, existentialist mixing of cultures - and do another banner with 'the conclusion (or death, or finish, or other opposite of origin) of the sun'. Set one on the East, and one on the West.

Very like 'I am the Alpha and the Omega' of Japanese culture at Estrella. (how's that for blasphemy, on a few levels)

Um, NO! (Especially since the West Kingdom's populace badge is a green demi-sun. And don't think I haven't thought about converting THAT to look like the Japanese Navy's hinomaru either.)

BTW, the kanji have not actually been painted on a banner yet.

Man, someday I will have to download/install the Japanese language pack so that I can actually SEE the kanji instead of dingbats...

Make that writing BADLY in Chinese. And it's so the menfolk can find their way home, OK? I have to be nice to 'em so they'll do the icky camp stuff.

"Asahi" is a pretty common word--in my town there was a grocery and a dry cleaners called Asahi. There's also a very famous newspaper. They aren't all the same company--it's sort of like the word "Sunshine" in English, or something like that.
Asahi beer is pretty good, too.
